I'm a software developer, database, web and systems developer. I'm a long-time gamer, comic-collector, sci-fi and fantasy reader. I love superheroes and the idea of magic. I began writing in 2009, when I found most book series to be too short, and wanted to see characters continue on in new adventures.
AZ: What type of books you write? Why?
To date, I've been focused on writing contemporary fantasy/sci-fi, with a focus on superhero novels (written, not graphic novels). I wanted to see a superhero world with far more detail on the characters than comic books could give, and yet would see more attention than the 1-2 books most superhero authors do.
AZ: What are your top 5 favorite books?
I can't say as I have individual favorites. Star Wolf (by Edmond Hamilton) stands out, as do the Anita Blake series and Merry Gentry series by Laurell K. Hamilton.
AZ: If you would have not been a writer, what you would be?
My 'day job' is a Manager of Information Technology, encompassing programming, systems, database, and network setup and work. I suppose that would be it!
AZ: 5 books you won't recommend to anyone.
I won't recommend the 'huge name' authors, such as Dean Koontz, James Patterson, etc. The reason isn't because I dislike them (or their work), but so many people buy their books to 'be on the bandwagon,' and ignore indie authors simply because they don't have a known name.
AZ: What are the main challenges related to career for authors/indie authors?
For indies, part of the challenge is in finding editing services that don't cost more than the author might make for years. The other big challenge is in marketing and promotion - getting your name out so that people even know you (or your books) exist.
